Geology :
Sodalite is a rich royal blue tectosilicate mineral. Member of the feldspathoid minerals. Colours can be white, gray, purple or green but the blue variety is the most familiar.
Sodalite is formed in silica poor rocks which contain other silica poor minerals and no quartz. It is a dark blue, vitreous and semi transparent to semi translucent stone. Sodalite is not a surface stone. It is usually brought up from the deepest levels of the earth through volcanic activity and is found as masses in igneous rocks.
