Fossil coral, also known as agatized coral, petrified coral, or even Petoskey Stone in some regions, carries several meanings and beliefs, often relating to grounding, change, and ancient wisdom. In metaphysical circles, it’s seen as a stone that supports emotional balance, intuition, and a connection to the past.

It is predominantly thought to hold grounding energy that in the spell of its wearer’s life brings change for good. On a physical plane, this fossilized coral is too known to possess the healing eminences of the agate. It is supposed to mend the disorders of the pancreas (insulin-producing), and perk up blood circulation as well as breathing capability.

Fossil Coral isn’t a true coral gemstone but a type of chalcedony, a microcrystalline quartz formed over millions of years. It forms through petrifaction when prehistoric coral from shallow seas is buried and replaced by silica-rich groundwater, preserving its structure.

This fossilisation, called pseudomorphosis, replaces calcium carbonate skeletons with agate or quartz, creating beautiful flower-like or starburst patterns. These patterns show coral polyps in fine detail with colours like white, beige, brown, pink, grey, and orange.
