Obsidian Crystal is an igneous rock and a type of natural glass. Black Obsidian is formed when a volcano erupts and the lava cools very quickly. Obsidian stone is also known as volcanic glass, xaga, and royal agate because of the depth of its colour.

Obsidian is extremely rich in silica and low in water, and has a chemical composition similar to rhyolite. This stone has a glassy lustre and is slightly harder than window glass.

Black obsidian is interesting because it looks like it would be smooth to the touch, but the raw pieces can actually have sharp rough edges. It’s those sharp edges that are why obsidian has been found as far back as 2.5 million years ago as both tools and weapons for many different indigenous populations.
